What makes a short-form video go viral?

No one can guarantee a viral video, but the pattern is consistent: a premise a stranger wants to finish, a first two seconds that sell it, and retention through the end. Four videos we made for one GTA dealership ranged from 125,100 to 23.6 million views with the same account and crew, so the idea is the variable that matters most.

How long should an Instagram Reel be?

Long enough to pay off one idea, and no longer. In Viterno Group's dataset of 240 viral Reels and TikToks (as of October 2026), outliers with a known length ran a median of 44 seconds, the ones that beat their account's median by 100x or more ran a median of 57 seconds, and only about a quarter were 15 seconds or shorter.

Can a small Instagram account go viral?

Yes, and small accounts produce the biggest multiples. In Viterno Group's October 2026 dataset, 59% of videos that beat their account's median by 100x or more came from accounts under 20,000 followers, and those small accounts had a median multiplier of 132x versus 13x for accounts with over a million followers.

What is an outlier multiplier?

A video's views divided by the median views of the account that posted it. A video at 10x did ten times what that account normally does. It removes follower count from the comparison, so it shows whether the idea worked rather than how big the audience was.

What should a restaurant post on Instagram?

Give people a reason to visit: the room, a signature ritual, the owner or chef with an opinion, and short sensory loops of one hero item. In October 2026, a restaurant that delivers food by toy train reached 5.3M views at 312 times the account's median, while plain food close-ups rarely broke out.

What should a dentist post on social media?

Short answers to the questions patients are embarrassed to ask, honest advice about when treatment is not needed, and visuals of what patients never see. In October 2026 a dental account with 773 followers reached 4.1M views, and "whiten at home instead of veneers" did 1,018 times its median.

What should a barbershop post on Instagram?

Transformations whose first frame names the client's problem rather than the technique, kids' cuts filmed with permission, and your barbers' personalities. "Give me back 10 years" reached 46.6M views, and a Toronto barber with 402 followers did 2.4M with a receding-hairline transformation.

What should a med spa post on Instagram?

Videos that answer "does it hurt?", providers narrating a treatment from start to finish, honest recovery timelines shared with consent, and advice on when a treatment is wrong for someone. Canadian clinics should check advertising rules on prescription drugs and testimonials first.
